where do you get all these Add-On-parts from?

---------- Post added at 20:48 ---------- Previous post was at 20:47 ----------

wait, there's now already 8.5!
where to get it?

Is it possible to go to orbit in this program (does it simulate the centrifugal-force when crircling around earth)? and if yes, how are the Values ( since i believe that it might be that the world is smaller there and yo only need a lower speed to get into Orbit)

YES, it's definitely possible to orbit this mini-planet. ( I am right now :p)

The atmosphere 'ends' at around 40k, so that's the lowest orbit you can have.

Here is a large table of numbers, they can help you with whatever you need. They include Altitude, the Velocity required for a completely circular orbit at that altitude at MECO, the Orbit time (min/orbit), and required escape velocity at that altitude.

(Credits to the creator of that really helpful table; it is not mine)

Failure rate rockets used in Kerbal Space Program have dropped below 90 % with few crews even managing to get in some random orbit which is considered a major improvement by Kerbal rocket engineers.

Irrelevant. Previous versions loaded quickly.
Ok well then I will say this I added more parts and mods to mine it did cause it to load a little slower and I am running it off a 8gig thumbdrive no issues. Just a little slower loading by maybe 10 secs. I am Using Windows 7. So now that I have a portable KSP I then took it to work and ran it on computer at work. It only has onboard video and windows XP with half the ram. Had to turn the vid setting down a little but loading times wasn't any different. Same 10 sec extra loading time. Any luck with the support thread?

The athmosphere 'ends' at around 35000m.

[shameless plug]

Or you use this nifty little calculator program for circular orbits, elliptic orbits and Hohmann Transfer orbits. It also speaks Launch Orbits for the initial orbit after burnout, but that feature is currently highly experimental and I'm note sure if the math is correct at all... The lack of the Velocity Vector to enter might be the problem...

34 kilometres exactly in my experiments, and it's a very abrupt cut.
I'd call it a bug - the atmosphere is way too unrealistic. Feels like launching from Titan.

A single 1-tank liquid rocket have enough Dv to achieve orbit, but the need to drill through the atmosphere calls for all these massive boosters.

Right... the most efficient launch trajectory seems to be launching straight up and only thrusting sidewards when you're above 35 km.

In my experience the cutoff altitude is between 34 and 35 km. My best guess is 34.5 km.

there's some rework pending on that atmosphere model, i figure.... the "wall of doom" at 34.5K altitude seems like mostly a bug to me

Someone tell me everything that happened between pages 14 and 28 because I refuse to read all of them.

pages 14 and 28??? this is only on page 11. Not everyone has the same settings. from post number to post number is far more useful.

There's a problem with the parachute. It deploys at 500m altitude, which is all fine and dandy until you reenter over some mountains:

I've noticed that too, am I the only one who waits and then as soon as it's below 500 opens the chute? I would be surprised if I am. :p

I open the chute at 300 metres. Then the crew have to go through ~20Gs. :jiggy:

Just try not to land on mountains! ;)
I never heard of a space mission that did that before, otherwise, use thrusters to smoothly touch down. :D

I launched a large rocket straight up and stopped the burn just before I reached escape velocity. I then started falling down and ignited the remaining 3 tanks of liquid fuel I had... I don't remember what the velocity was when I hit the atmosphere, but even without deploying the chute, the capsule sustained a max G of 76 :)
