Just saw this last night, and here's my 2 cents.

I overall thought it was a great movie. Instead of classic time travel, I really enjoyed the use of time dilation as a plot device. Not only that, they kinda sorta tried with the science and technology. The story line was pretty well developed, but the weaker points were the script and character development. But it's a scifi, so I wasn't expecting too much about characters. In spite of that, I feel like it emotionally appealed to the audience really well.

One of my favorite scenes was when Murph and the other scientist were talking to her brother, trying to convince him to move his family out in order to save their lives. I thought it was a great allegory of the conflict between science and ignorance in society.

I'd give the movie a 4.5/5

My Steam username has been Interstellar since the announcement of Voyager 1 really entering interstellar space. Now I've had a couple people in games ask me what I thought of the movie. I haven't seen it. Christopher Nolan stole my username.

I still plan on watching the movie by next week. But I doubt it would replace Moon as my favorite science fiction movie and movie overall.

MOON was awesome! I bought it on some type of medie.. I think dvd. I liked interstellar, but the science fact ruined it. I kept screaming BS in my head while watching it and ruined it story wise. However the space scenes were amazing!

I just saw it today.

Was so much more than what I had expected.

edit: actually I didn't know what to expect other than what I had seen in trailers.

edit: I was trying to say that I didn't pay attention to the movie's showtime, and was expecting two hours of content. Instead, it turned out to be three.

Anyways, Interstellar was an amazing film. It was like 2001, Gravity, and Inception combined. (I haven't seen or read Contact)

edit: and then I found out that I saw Interstellar on Carl Sagan's birthday.

Just watched it, I'm going to put 10/10 because it is just about up there on the list of the best films that is humanly possible to be made.

I know, outrageous dramatization at some points but seriously, as either space film or just a film in general, this is one of the best in history. I didn't just watch a film rolling in the cinema, I was watching history being written. I'm just going to leave it here, Nolan have achieved Kubrick's level in my eyes.

Neil deGrasse Tyson has reviewed the science. But I can't read it yet because I haven't seen the movie. :( Maybe next weekend. There's an IMAX nearby but it's not 70mm so I'm not sure if it's worth going to the IMAX at all.

Holy crap, that's some high praise. You've created quite an expectation for this movie. I hope it lives up...

It is worth it, unfortunately my town have no IMAX otherwise I would've burn 3 days worth of food there. Let's just say that the default cinema settings left the picture quite underwhelming for me considering the quality is up there.

Well, a simple google search shows that I'm not the only one and they have been saying it since Inception, but I still think that this is the moment where he actually ascended to that level.

Hm, the IMAX advert here say that some scenes were shot with native IMAX camera/resolution.
Might be worth a re-watch.
Also, i only just noticed that the movie was 3 hours long!

I watched the movie yesterday and I liked it a lot. However, I did spot a few places where the science was not very accurate. Some of them were necessary for the plot, but at least once I was surprised that things were done the way they were done.

Since there is no "spoiler" tag here and I don't want to spoil the fun for those of you who haven't watched the movie yet, I'm putting the list of mistakes I caught here.

I might have forgotten some details - if I remember something more, I'll add it.

I'll repeat once more, just in case - I am in no way saying that the movie was bad. I thought it was very good, it's just that if I see something that isn't 100% accurate, I just have to notice it ;)

About one day from now I should be exiting the theatre after watching it. I can't wait! :)

Im pulling the hair out of my head and screaming at the top of my lungs...

The structure of the black hole-accretion disk complex is amazing to say the least.

Im really worried that some of the more fictional elements may distort what could possibly be the most scientifically accurate movie of the decade. Some parts of the script have some really heavy political flaws and towards the end, the script seems to throw out Newtonian physics.

Thanks for that; pretty cool. I had seen that image and thought that was actual heated gas forming a ring in the vertical plane around the black hole. Didn't realize it was an image of the horizontal accretion disk due to the optical distortion of the intense gravity, a mirage so to speak.

Seen the movie today.
Their wormhole looked really good (and i've seen more accurate renderings of one than mine is). Too bad they over-dramatised and technobabbled the passage through it.

It is, however, a great movie. Lots of cut corners and repealed newton's laws in it, but in general it is good.

And the saddest part is (possible spoiler):
ǝbɐ buıbbıɹɟ pןo ɟo ǝıp ןןıʇs suɐɯnɥ ǝɥʇ 'sǝɹnʇɔnɹʇsɹǝdns puɐ ssǝɹboɹd ɟo sɹɐǝʎ ǝsǝɥʇ ןןɐ ɹǝʇɟɐ

Yep. It's still online, i think.

It's not terribly accurate and i cut some corners to make it real-time (i.e. you can't get into the actual throat of it and fly perpendicular to space), but the basic shape should be plausible.

Thanks. Great images. BTW, how did you get the writing in that part to appear upside down?

That's easy - just flip your keyboard back to front. :)

Seriously, there are unicode symbols for upside-down letters, and there are plenty of on-line converters if you google "inverted text".

You guys are funny. This is another blaring in-your-face megaplex film, albeit with some nice space graphics.

The exposition is almost too much to stomach: overloaded with schmaltzy Americana and overtures to frontier mythology (and watch out for the liberal education establishment which wants to subvert your children from this destiny!), whilst McConaughey drawls and mumbles and swaggers.

If you can get past that, then the spaceflight scenes are really nice. But like my complaints of Gravity, this still feels a lot like watching a computer game: Quick! Get to the planet, Quick! Get to the next one etc ...

The ending of the film is hugely derivative, but the one thing it ought to have derived, from that film, is an understanding that for films like this symbolic endings are stronger than literal ones, and more likely to stand the test of time.

The great achievement of this film is the black hole visualisation, as described in a previous post here. But my strong feeling is that anyone who thinks this is the best film they've ever seen really needs to see more films.

My favourite sci-fi film for the year remains Under the Skin.

Pretty good, I think! A lot of flaws, scientific, plot-related and otherwise, but still quite good.

The soundtrack was quite cool.

Christopher Nolan, thanks for having a female classmate have an emotional breakdown in school today (I agreed with them to buy the tickets in exchange for watching Interstellar last Sunday)
It was never so emotional to me.

I'm not sure you know what an emotional breakdown is. Usually you don't thank people for having to witness them... :shifty:

At least the establishment finally admits the moon landings were faked. :)

Ending is like 2001 but easier to understand.
